Certain text files, such as logs, can take up more than a Gigabyte, making it hard to open by any application. Jalatext may look like a simple text editor, but it was designed specifically for large text files. Besides the fact that it opens large files a bit faster, the application is very stable and it will stay responsive regardless of the file's size.

You can evaluate Jalatext, free of charge, for a maximum of 30 days, after which you must buy a license. The setup file is almost 2 MB, so you will not spend too much time downloading and installing the application. A Java based installer is available as well, which means that you can use Jalatext on various platforms, including Windows, Mac and Linux.

The application's interface looks and feels like the standard Notepad utility. The main difference is that it will never freeze if you try to open a large text file. You can find a series of familiar functions, for copying text, searching for specific words or phrases, bookmarking a location and more.

One of the most important features is the possibility of converting the loaded text to a different format for Windows or Linux. The Windows and Linux options can be selected directly from the Edit menu. If you want to select a different encoding, you will need to bring up a small window and select one from a drop menu.

Pros

The application is capable of loading large text files, without freezing or crashing. You can search for text fragments, place bookmarks and change the text's encoding.

Cons

The application is free to try for 30 days. Jalatext enables you to open huge text files, without the need to worry about freezes or crashes.
